Warren did clawhammer music, but still had the towel in there to mute the sound. It was very loud, and very responsive when I used the picks on it. Even though it's a vintage OME (1971 open-back) he had a towel tucked in under the head to help dampen the sound. It was a GOOD banjo and I was able to pick on it for an afternoon (back then). It would be fun to find out if he sold it to someone else, and then they sold it to Elderly, or if he sold it to Elderly direct and for how much. Huh! What do ya know, eh? When Warren (the seller of it back in 2009) had it on craigslist, he was "willing to offer me a deal" on it for 1100 or so since he and I know each other. Interestingly, the above-mentioned Ome XX (SN:24) is now for sale at Elderly for $1400.

$1,000 taxed, out the door with a case wouldn't be a bad deal. $800 as suggested earlier would be a nice bargain. If you don't make an offer, someone else will. I still consider myself a beginner and am playing clawhammer, but folks rave about Omes here and I wondered whether I should try for a bargain< > It is listed at $1100 if I remember correctly, and the salesperson last time I was in fooling with it suggested I make an offer. Later, the Wonder and Peabody banjos among others. Vega used this on their Regent and Senator five strings Little Wonder and Style N tenors. This makes it the OME version of the Little Wonder tone ring from Vega. Should be nickel plated brass - it's called a skirt. I love the single X for noodling around the house because it is very much lighter than my other banjo and not as loud, and it plays great. I also have a triple X which is a completely different setup, with very, very different sound. From the outside it looks like a tone ring but it is not. I have a single X and it has a brass hoop covered with a steel(?) shaped sheet that covers it. Here's the link to the archived topic - > OME X (number 24).

Ed Britt gave a very good "dissertation" on early OME banjos of which yours is one, (if it was built in 74 or 75). Be prepared to dicker a little with them, but if a salesman who works there suggested the idea of making an offer on it - I'd take them up on it if you're interested in the banjo.ģ years ago a friend of mine had an OME X (it turned out it was a double XX) for sale, and I asked for advice about it here on the Hang Out because there are some VERY knowledgeable folks when it comes to OME and ODE banjos and I didn't know much about them. an unsold banjo taking up space in their shop. As Ragaisis mentioned - I bet they'd rather have the money vs. Since it's been there for a year or so, offer them 800 bucks (cash - right then and there), and see what they say. It's been hanging in the shop for probably over year. I still consider myself a beginner and am playing clawhammer, but folks rave about Omes here and I wondered whether I should try for a bargain. It is listed at $1100 if I remember correctly, and the salesperson last time I was in fooling with it suggested I make an offer. A nearby music store has a used Ome that they identify as a 1974 or '75 single X.
